Eventually, he finds it and begins reading it, but his memory lapses make him forget that he took the diary out from storage. At the time of receiving it, Ethan puts it away with a bunch of his other things and forgets about it. Where did the diary come from?Įthan’s father gave him the diary with a lot of his work and theories. ![]() Ethan also is hell-bent on outdoing his father’s work to prove that he’s his own man. Ethan is left with pockets of missing memories and has frequent blackouts. So as the film begins, we’re shown that Ethan has tried to use the machine to erase memories of his father, at least the bad ones. He eventually witnesses his father passing away, an it leaves him with remorse. ![]() While Ethan felt that his father was not appreciative enough, it appears Ethan had his own trust issues and misinterpreted many things straining his relationship with his father. This is the R9-X machine that is referred to in the movie. What’s the backstory of Ethan and his father?Įthan’s father was a genius and worked on cutting-edge technology that mapped neuropathways to extract memories. – How do Alli and Ethan solve the problem?.In Twelve Minutes, you may be shocked by what you find. Here are links to the key aspects of the movie: The problem comes when we begin to act in this way beyond such safe confines. Like that movie, the time device of Twelve Minutes evokes uncanny states of mind-a panicked fever dream, a memory that just won’t let go, a premonition you repeat ad infinitum-conditions in which we stretch the boundaries of our own behavior. In a way, it echoes another Nolan movie, Memento, about a man with amnesia whose story is told backwards. The actual ending of Twelve Minutes isn’t so neat, nor is its payoff quite so gratifying, but this isn’t a deal breaker. As a whole, it reminds me of Nolan’s films, Interstellar and Dunkirk, when various planes of time coalesce to wonderful, clarifying effect. There’s a light touch to the choreography of conversations and actions that occur alongside one another, each one filled with heartfelt emotion. I won’t divulge exactly what happens, but if time is the central device around which the game is structured then this is the moment various threads fall into thrilling lock-and-groove synchronization. This is true, but there’s another key movie influence behind game creator Luis Antonio’s absorbing debut.īut when Twelve Minutes hits, it really hits-none more than one sequence which had me convinced I was about to see the credits roll. Cinephiles may also note a resemblance between this premise and that of Alfred Hitchock’s Dial M for Murder, another single-apartment home-invasion thriller. It’s up to you to find a way out of this terrible situation, all without leaving the cramped three rooms of the apartment, rendered in rich colors like a classic Hollywood movie. ![]() But then, horror strikes: A cop, played with fierce intensity by Willem Dafoe, arrives at the door accusing your wife of murder. Playing as the husband, you help set the table using a classic point-and-click-adventure system of interaction-items combine with other items, objects, and people, viewed from a top-down perspective. A husband and wife, voiced by James McAvoy and Daisy Ridley, are celebrating news of their first pregnancy. Twelve Minutes confronts these questions head-on through the lens of the home-invasion thriller. We’ll likely have imagined what could drive us to such depraved extremes-the threatened life of a loved one? How about outright greed or lust? These are questions many of us will have considered in our darkest moments, perhaps alone at home or in a deep nightmarish sleep. How far would you go if pushed into a corner? What, truly, are you capable of?

![]() ![]() These are 1-year subscriptions, limited to use on a single Mac, but there is a 30-day money back guarantee, so if it doesn’t do the job you should be able to recover your money (although maybe not your data). The bad news is that Windows users have a Standard version to choose which costs less, but this isn’t an option on the Mac. So, if your needs are greater then that you need to look at Stellar Data Recovery Professional for Mac ($99.99/£99.99, currently $89.99/£90) which brings the ability to recover files from lost volumes, Time Machine back ups, Encrypted disk drives, and create recovery drives. There are limitations though, mainly that the app will only allow you to recover up to 1GB of files. Stellar Data Recovery for Mac from Stellar Info Software is another popular option, with a free trial on offer so you can test out its capabilities before committing to a purchase. If you don’t have a spare drive or Mac laying around, then EaseUS Data Recovery for Mac will allow you send the recovered files directly to a cloud storage service such as Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive. The app works with APFS, HFS+, HFS X, FAT (FAT16, FAT32), exFAT, and NTFS, and it isn’t limited to recovering data from internal drives, as you can also use it to recover data from an external hard drive, SSD, USB storage, memory card, plus it supports Time Machine and Finder backups of iOS devices.Ī clear, simple interface is also a welcome feature, with the three step process of scanning, selecting files, then recovering them, all handled without the need for any technical knowledge. It also now supports Macs with the T2 security chips, which is a big bonus if you have a newer device, plus EaseUS states the app is also compatible with M1 silicon too. The ability to create a bootable USB drive also means there’s a good chance you can find data even when macOS is unable to boot up on your Mac’s internal drive. If you want longer, then you can buy a 1-year licence for $119.95/£131.99, all of which come with a 30-day money back guarantee.ĮaseUS covers a lot of files types and disk formats, and also allows you a good chance of recovering files from a disk if you’ve accidentally reformatted it or deleted a partition before removing your files. This might sound expensive, but data recovery software isn’t the kind of thing you use regularly, so it should be enough time to get your Mac back on its feet, or at least rescue the data. The unlimited app costs $89.95/£95.99 for one month (you can cancel at any time). That might not sound like a lot, but it’s more than what’s offered by most trials, and potentially enough to find what you are looking for or at least know it can see your lost data before you pay for a full licence. If you are looking to recover a deleted file, EaseUS Data Recovery for Mac is a good option since it has a free version that is limited to 2GB.

![]() If you can’t get to the shutdown slider, you can force an iPhone to turn off by holding both the power and home buttons until the screen goes dark (about 3-5 seconds). Hint: To get into DFU mode, leave the iPhone connected to the computer by USB cable. RedSn0w will walk you through putting the iPhone into that special DFU mode. Basically run any version of RedSn0w 0.9.6 (I used the 0.9.6b5 version I had from my last jailbreak) and in the options screen, select only the “Just enter pwned DFU mode right now”. This Youtube video, How to: Fix ERROR 1015 iPhone 3G STUCK ITUNES-STEP BY STEP!, contains the instructions. The correct solution was to run RedSn0w to put the iPhone into a special “pwned” DFU mode which would accept custom ipsw firmware images and then to do the iTunes restore. (I have no idea what the 1016 error is about though.) iTunes did not recognize this baseband version and thus, threw a 1015 error. The iTunes restore error was caused by the updated 06.15.00 baseband version (I had updated the baseband to get the unlocking tool, UltraSn0w, to work). (TinyUmbrella also offered a “fix recovery” function which I tried whatever it did, it didn’t fix my issue.) Unfortunately, this method did not work and the iPhone promptly booted back into recovery mode. In this scenario, that something would probably be to run a tool like TinyUmbrella to kick the iPhone out of recovery mode.įYI: Per some instructions I found on the web, I did the restore again, left iTunes displaying the error 1015 dialog, ran TinyUmbrella to get the iPhone to “exit recovery” mode, and waited for the iPhone to reboot. It turns out that the previous jailbreak I used was an tethered jailbreak meaning that if I rebooted the iPhone, I would have to connect it to the computer and do something. This time, I got an error 1016.Īfter hours of googling, experiments (where I got other errors like 1600), and reading my own posts on the subject (I had forgotten everything), I found the answer. I re-attempted the restore, this time holding the Option key while clicking on Restore so I could browse for and select my custom ipsw image file. I found that I still had the custom PwnageTool iOS 4.2.1 ipsw firmware image I had used previously. Unfortunately, the iTunes restore failed with an error 1015. I was thinking that I would just redo the jailbreak. I then plugged the iPhone into my Macbook Pro and did an iOS 4.2.1 restore using iTunes. After reboot, the iPhone was stuck in recovery mode. ![]() So naturally, I went into Settings, General, Reset, and selected “Erase All Content and Settings”. I wanted to give my iPhone 3G, which I had previously jailbroken and unlocked, to a friend. Even more adjustments are available via the ADD button.Īt any time, you can Reset Adjustments and revert back to the original photo. Each of these tools has an Auto option, which can be a good place to start, so long as you adjust from there. If you’re observant and note the “Add” link near the top right, you can include a histogram, sharpening, noise reduction, vignettes, white balance, levels and definition. If you click on the small arrow next to any of these, the tab expands into the kinds of controls you see in Lightroom and Adobe Camera RAW. The adjust button opens the door to the main editing controls, allowing you to adjust Light, Color and convert to Black and White. I tend not to use these kinds of filters, but you can get some cool effects with them. Next are the tools to rotate and crop the photo, followed by a series of filters similar to Instagram filters. You can always discard changes by clicking on the Revert to Original button at the top right. It applies what the program thinks is the best set of adjustments. There are some decent controls that allow you to do a lot of basic editing.Įnhance is the lazy person’s one-step edit. If you click on the icon of the three sliders in the top right of the panel, the editing tools magically appear on the right side. The plus button lets you add this photo to albums, books, calendars, and such, while the button with the arrow coming up out of a box sends your photo to your favorite social media app, to an email, and to other places. Then comes the information button, that shows you the camera settings, EXIF data, and lets you add keywords, descriptions and locations. Over on the right side of the window is a heart icon, which allows you to add the photo to your Favorites. Then a button that adds a filmstrip below the selected photo. When you double click to select one, it expands to fill the screen, much like the Grid and Loupe functions of Lightroom (see above).Īcross the top of the window, from left to right, you have the traffic lights and back button. When you first open Photos, you get a grid view of all of your photos. Editing on a desktop or laptop gives you a more extensive toolset and finer controls. Note also that similar, but not as powerful, tools can be found in the Photos app for iPhone and iPad. Personally, I use Lightroom to manage my photos and, as I recall, I had to stop the Photos app from automatically adding all my shots to it, in addition to Lightroom. I believe the defaults on a Mac are set to automatically add all photos to the Photo app. One of the benefits is that Photos syncs your photographs between all your devices through iCloud. Note first that Apple wants you to store all your photos in the Photos app. However, the tools are hidden and you could be (like I was, prior to researching this article) completely unaware of them. For many casual, or even semi-advanced photographers who are invested in the Apple ecosystem, this might be all you need. It houses a fairly robust set of editing tools that do many of the tasks in Lightroom’s Develop Module or Photoshop’s Camera RAW. After they shut down Aperture in 2015, the Photos app on a Mac might be Apple’s best kept secret. Photos is the built-in editor that comes with your Mac. ![]() So, what are some options? Apple’s Photos And some of the alternatives have things Lightroom doesn’t. Even where alternatives offer some of the catalog features, like keywording or star ratings, they don’t replicate the full range of functionality in the Lightroom Catalog. Lightroom’s catalogue system is unique and one of the reasons many photographers use it. Let’s also recognize that no single software package duplicates everything another does. So, be aware: you may find yourself on your own if you run into a problem. While they often have good online tutorials, these alternatives don’t have the breadth and depth of free (and pay) tutorials by photographers that you’ll find with Lightroom or Photoshop. Many of these alternative applications have developed good sized user bases, but you might not have anyone teaching them in your area or anyone local you can turn to should you encounter an issue or have a question. What are the best, free alternatives to Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop if you’re using a Mac?
